Introduction: That "Chinese patent" may be a piece of paper in Hong Kong Hong Kong, the gateway to...
[Media publication report] Published in Kinki Tax Accountants' World
The seminar was published in the Kinki Tax Accountant Association (November 10 issue).
My name is Takefumi Sugiura and I am a patent attorney.
The other day, I served as a lecturer at a related specialty course held by the Kinki Certified Public Tax Accountants Association.
We would like to inform you that the content of the lecture was featured extensively in the association's newsletter, ``Kinki Tax Accountants' Association.''
The theme is
"Become a tax accountant who can use intellectual property as a conversation starter."
In this training, instead of simply explaining legal expertise, we talked from a ``practical'' perspective on how tax accountants can be involved in client intellectual property in their daily work.
▼ Main points discussed
🔸 Intellectual property is an “invisible asset”
Unlike land and buildings, intellectual property is difficult to see, so it is often overlooked in the process of preparing financial statements. That is why the ``awareness'' of tax accountants who look at the business as a whole, not just the numbers, is important.
🔸 Tax accountants are the “bridge”
Specialized application procedures are the domain of patent attorneys like us, but it is the tax accountants who are closest to our clients who are able to make us aware of questions such as, ``Could this be a patent?'' or ``Has it been registered as a trademark?''
🔸 Prevent risks through conversation
In casual conversations such as ``I thought of a new product name'' or ``I changed the logo,'' there are hidden risks of trademark infringement and opportunities to acquire rights. Picking up on those conversations is directly connected to protecting the client's business.
I would be happy if this article conveyed to many tax accountants the importance of collaboration between "intellectual property and taxation."
Thank you to all the teachers who participated and the Kinki Certified Public Tax Accountants Association for this valuable opportunity.
I would like to share the detailed content that I talked about at the seminar on my blog, etc.
If you are a tax accountant who has issues regarding the intellectual property of your client, please feel free to collaborate with us.
