Notes/Best Practices

Important matters for deadline management

  1. Early application recommended: Early application recommended at the start of the application period in all countries
  2. Response to rate revisions: Application timing taking into consideration the rate revision period at the beginning of the year (January)
  3. Using grace periods: Important as a last resort if you miss a deadline

Points for cost optimization

  1. Use of electronic filing: Many countries offer preferential fees for electronic filing
  2. Small and Medium Business Discounts: Huge discounts for small and medium businesses in Brazil and Indonesia
  3. Multiple class management: Fee increase in 2024-2025 will increase the cost of registering for multiple classes

Importance of agent selection

  1. Foreign agent requirement: Many countries require a local agent for foreign applicants
  2. Ensuring expertise: Involvement of experts is recommended for deadline management and accurate documentation
  3. Brexit response: Need to secure representation system in both EU and UK

Certificate of use support

  1. Strong requirements: USA (specific proof), Philippines/Indonesia (declaration)
  2. Risk of non-use: Risk of cancellation due to non-use for 3-5 years in many countries
  3. Advance preparation: Preparation of usage proof documents and continuous usage management

Language/translation support

  1. Countries where English is available: USA, Canada, Singapore, Australia, India, Malaysia, Philippines
  2. Countries where local language is required: China, Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, Brazil, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia
  3. Translation and notarization: Advance preparation for translation and notarization as necessary

Important practical points

  1. Systematic management: Systematic deadline management corresponding to different application periods and requirements in each country
  2. Centralized management: Centralized information management system for trademark rights management in multiple countries
  3. Continuous update: Information update system corresponding to annual changes in each country's system
  4. Risk management: Measures to prevent the risk of losing rights due to expiration or non-use

This list is based on information as of July 2025, and we strongly recommend checking the latest information from each country's trademark office and consulting with an expert before making an actual application.
